Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Women's lacrosse debuted as Felician University's 13th varsity intercollegiate sport when the Golden Falcons traveled to the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference game on Monday afternoon at Knights Field. Bridgeport led, 13-0, at halftime, and came away with a 15-1 victory.
Freshman midfielder Liana Chirichiello (Waldwick, N.J.) scored the first goal in Felician history when she converted on an unassisted tally with 47 seconds remaining in the contest. Chirichiello also recorded the Golden Falcons' first ground ball and draw control. She took all four of Felician's shots on the day, putting three on goal, and led the visitors with five ground balls and three draw controls.
Felician sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen Britanak (Toms River, N.J.) faced 27 shots and made seven saves. She added three ground balls.
Bridgeport (3-4) scored three times in the game's first two minutes, 50 seconds. The Purple Knights extended to a 9-0 edge after nine minutes, and were ahead, 13-0, on Arianna Weingrad's (Hicksville, N.Y.) second goal of the game with 12:07 left in the opening period. Bridgeport carried that same edge into halftime.
Freshman Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) led Bridgeport with four goals and four assists. Sophomore Abigail Benesh tallied three goals, three assists and three draw controls, and Weingrad finished with two goals, three assists and three ground balls.
The first caused turnover in Felician history went to senior Susie McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla.). Junior Tainely Perez (Totowa, N.J.) had two caused turnovers for the Golden Falcons, and classmate Berlina Cebien (Union, N.J.) turned in two ground balls and two draw controls.
Felician is back in action on Wednesday for its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest, when it travels to Holy Family University for a 3:30 p.m. draw.
