Box Score 2 BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Bloomfield College softball team scored in international tiebreaker play in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a 3-2 victory in Game 1 of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with visiting Felician University on Thursday afternoon at Clark's Pond South. Bloomfield then completed the sweep with an 8-3 Game 2 win.
Bloomfield (13-12, 7-5 CACC) has won five consecutive games.
Game 1 matched up pitchers Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) of Felician and Bloomfield junior Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls, Pa.). Wilson's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning forced extra frames, and with the scored still tied after eight, the tiebreaker went into effect for the ninth inning by CACC rule.
Felician's Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) led off with a single and stole second base, giving the visitors runners on second and third with no one out. A ground ball to third base saw the potential go-ahead run cut down at home with no advance by Roldan. Freshman Kayla Weber (Oak Ridge, N.J.) singled to load the bases, but Wilson escaped the jam by recording a strikeout and a popup.
In the home half of the ninth, Bear catcher Greta Coleman (Indianola, Wash.) was placed on second base and sacrificed to third by Lauren Bueno (Hacienda Heights, Calif.). Senior center fielder Veronica Cobos (Torrance, Calif.) then ended the game with a single up the middle.
Wilson (8-4) gave up one earned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts over nine innings. Cobos and Aubrey Orr (Gallup, N.M.) were each 2 for 4 and Paige Lafferty (Liberty Hill, Texas) homered for Bloomfield. Owens (5-7) also went the distance in the circle, giving up two earned runs on eight hits. Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) hit a first-inning home run for Felician (11-17, 5-7) and Roldan and Weber garnered two hits apiece.
The Bears scored three runs in the fourth inning of Game 2 to erase a 3-0 deficit, then received three innings of perfect relief pitching from junior lefty Stephanie Miller (Temecula, Calif.) (3-7). Bloomfield went ahead for good in the fifth on Bueno's sacrifice fly, and tacked on a run on a bases-loaded walk to Annette Daw (Gallup, N.M.). The hosts then put the game away with three runs off of the Felician bullpen in the sixth.
Bueno (2 for 3, double) and Daw drove in three runs apiece as Bloomfield out-hit the Golden Falcons, 10-5. Freshman shortstop Zeaenna Brackett (Woodbury, N.J.) was 2 for 3 with a solo homer for Felician.
