Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Freshman third baseman Racquel Manzo (Whittier, Calif.) hit two home runs and freshman designated player Kayla Weber (Oak Ridge, N.J.) lined a tiebreaking double in the final inning to lead Felician University to a 6-4 non-conference softball victory over Urbana University during THE Spring Games on Monday morning at the Legends Way Ballfields. Later on Monday, Felician suffered a five-inning, 13-4 non-league loss to Kutztown University.
Weber and freshman shortstop Zeaenna Brackett (Woodbury, N.J.) were each a combined 3 for 5 on the day for Felician (6-8).
Felician was the designated visiting team against Urbana in its first contest of the day. The Blue Knights struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning, an uprising capped by a three-run triple from senior Courtney Moore (Springfield, Ohio). But Golden Falcon freshman Erin Powers (Aberdeen, N.J.) came on to pitch 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving her team time to mount a comeback.
Manzo hit a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run shot in the fifth. Felician tied the game in the sixth inning when Brackett's two-out single plated pinch-runner Victoria Quercia (Monroe Township, N.J.). Powers worked out of a first-and-third, two-out jam in the bottom of the sixth.
Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) led off the Felician seventh with a double, and Makayla Long (Millbrook, N.Y.) entered to pinch run. Manzo drew a walk, and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Weber then shot a double through the right side to bring both runners home for a 6-4 Golden Falcon lead. Powers (2-3) stranded two more Urbana runners in the bottom of the seventh. She gave up six hits, struck out three batters and walked none.
Moore was 3 for 3 and Katelyn Edwards (Ashland, Ohio) added two hits for the Blue Knights (0-3). Weber had two doubles for the Golden Falcons, who amassed 14 base hits.
Later on Monday, Kutztown posted 17 hits and took advantage of five Felician errors to plate seven unearned runs. The Golden Bears took control early, tallying seven times in the top of the first. Freshman Sara Keeny (Warminster, Pa.) capped that rally with a two-run double.
Trailing, 9-0, Felician put together four runs in the bottom of the second. Brynne Bauman (Hazlet, N.J.) and Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) stroked RBI singles and Brackett followed with a two-run triple. But Kutztown tacked on two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to force the NCAA eight-run rule.
Keeny finished 4 for 4 with four RBI and two steals for the Golden Bears.
