Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Freshman third baseman Brynne Bauman (Hazlet, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) went 3 for 7 and drove in six runs as the Felician University softball team won both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader with the visiting University of the Sciences, 9-1 and 11-3, on Sunday afternoon at Matera Field. Both contests were halted in the bottom of the sixth inning by the NCAA eight-run rule.
The Golden Falcons (13-21, 7-11 CACC) celebrated Senior Day between games. Dr. James Fitzpatrick, vice president for student affairs, represented the office of Felician president Dr. Anne M. Prisco and was on hand to honor the team's lone senior, catcher Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank). Lopez walked twice and scored four runs in the day's opening game, and had an RBI double in the nightcap.
Felician sophomore pitcher Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) (7-9) earned the victory in both games. Owens started and pitched a six-inning four-hitter in Game 1, striking out five batters while walking one. She tossed three innings of scoreless, three-hit relief in Game 2, allowing the Golden Falcons to come back from a 3-0 deficit.
Felician used an RBI grounder by Racquel Manzo (Whittier, Calif./La Habra) and Bauman's two-run single to score three times in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1. The Golden Falcons tacked on an unearned run in the third, then took full control when Manzo grounded a three-run single through the right side in the fourth.
USciences (9-22, 7-11) broke up the shutout in the fifth when Brittany Granahan (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) scored on the back end of a first-and-third double steal. But Felician put its first two runners on base in the sixth, ending the game on consecutive RBI singles by Manzo and Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif./John F. Kennedy).
Manzo finished 2 for 4 with five RBI and Zeaenna Brackett (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) scored three times for Felician, which garnered six hits and drew six walks.
The Devils scored first in Game 2 when starting pitcher Kaitlyn Gaynor (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) (2-5) lined a two-run single in the top of the second inning. USciences loaded the bases with none out in the fourth, and Felician summoned Owens, who started the game as the designated player, out of the bullpen. She escaped the jam yielding only one run, a two-out RBI single by Kiersten Badzgon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks).
Owens began the comeback for the hosts with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth. Felician then erupted for seven fifth-inning runs, using six hits and taking advantage of three Devil errors. Bauman and Brackett had two-run singles in the frame. Bauman ended the game with a one-out, two-run double in the sixth.
Bauman finished 3 for 4 with four RBI and Montoya and Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills) were each 3 for 4 with three runs scored for Felician. Gaynor went 3 for 3 for the Devils.
With their Game 1 victory, the Golden Falcons snapped a seven-game losing streak, and a stretch of 12 consecutive games of scoring three runs or fewer.
