Box Score 2 SPARKILL, N.Y. – Despite home runs from freshman Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif.) and sophomore Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.), the Felician University softball team lost, 10-6, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader to host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday afternoon at Spartan Field. Felician was limited two to base hits in dropping Game 1, 8-0, in six innings.
Freshman shortstop Zeaenna Brackett (Woodbury, N.J.) was 4 for 7 on the day for the Golden Falcons (15-27).
Felician fell behind, 5-0, after four innings of Game 2. But Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) led off the top of the fifth with a double and was brought home by a single from Miranda Torres (Riverside, Calif.). Three batters later, Montoya blasted a three-run home run to pull the Golden Falcons to within 5-4.
St. Thomas Aquinas left the bases loaded without scoring in the bottom of the fifth, but then put the game away by plating five runs on six hits in the sixth. Senior Brittany Mangan (Pomona, N.Y.) highlighted the uprising with a two-run triple. Roldan led off the seventh with a homer and Jackie Dueñas (Riverside, Calif.) had a run-scoring fielder's choice later in the frame, but the visitors could get no closer than the 10-6 final.
Freshman shortstop Kelcy McGeehan (Bayville, N.J.) was 3 for 5 with two RBI and Mangan and Danielle DiModugno (West Nyack, N.Y.) had two hits each for the Spartans (14-25), who owned a 12-11 hits advantage. Sophomore Brittany Malloy (New Windsor, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run in the third inning and freshman pitcher Alyssa Williams (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) earned her first career victory with 1 2/3 innings of relief work.
Brackett went 3 for 4 and Roldan and Montoya were each 2 for 4 for Felician.
STAC freshman Colleen Borum (Mountain Top, Pa.) (3-2) pitched a two-hit shutout in Game 1. She struck out seven batters without issuing a walk. The Spartans scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings before ending the game by tallying five times in the sixth. DiModugno had a two-run single in the frame, and the game ended when Felician was unable to turn a double play on Mangan's ground ball.
Spartan leadoff hitter Briana Keaveney (New City, N.Y.) was 3 for 4 with a double and scored twice and Mangan finished 2 for 4. Brackett and Roldan had the hits for the Golden Falcons.
