Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Post University put up a high-scoring middle inning in each game en route to sweeping its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from host Felician University, 7-1 and 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Matera Field.
Junior second baseman Jackie Dueñas (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) was 3 for 5 on the day for Felician (11-19, 5-9 CACC).
Senior pitcher Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) (11-5) earned the victory in both games for Post, which has won five consecutive contests. In 11 innings, Esque gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks.
In Game 1, Felician fell victim to an Esque one-hitter, a clean single by Dueñas in the first inning. Post loaded the bases in each of the first three frames, but only came away with one run, an RBI single by Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) in the first. Felician tied the game using a pair of Eagle errors in the second.
After stranding two more runners in the fourth, Post broke through with six runs on just three base hits in the fifth. With the bases full and one out, Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) lined a go-ahead single to right field, and Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) followed with a two-run double. Following a hit batsman, Wilson drove in a run with a walk, Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) pushed a single through the right side, and Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H./Exeter) capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.
Golden Falcon pitchers issued 16 walks and two hit batsmen to go along with the Eagles' six base hits. Kresley finished 2 for 2 with two doubles and was on base five times.
Freshman first baseman Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif./John F. Kennedy) staked the Golden Falcons to a 2-0 lead in Game two with a two-run first-inning single. That score held until the top of the fourth, when Post (15-16, 8-3) erupted for five runs on six hits. The Eagles plated the tying run on Kristen Owens' (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) safety squeeze bunt, and went ahead on an RBI infield hit by Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove). Kresley capped the rally with a two-run single.
Esque entered to start the bottom of the fourth inning, and yielded a run in the fifth on consecutive doubles by Zeaenna Brackett (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) and Dueñas. But she otherwise kept the Golden Falcons off the scoreboard, scattering five hits and striking out three in four innings.
Schaffer led a 14-hit attack for the Eagles by going 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Steph Donah (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) joined Brackett and Dueñas with two hits apiece for Felician.
