Roldan Milestone Leads Softball Offense In CACC Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician University amassed 27 base hits, including the 100th in the career of junior left fielder Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills), in winning both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician earned an 8-1 victory in Game 1 before claiming Game 2, 10-1, in five innings.

Freshman Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) hit a home run in each game for the Golden Falcons (11-12, 2-4 CACC). Sophomore third baseman Racquel Manzo (Whittier, Calif./La Habra) was 5 for 6 on the day, and Roldan picked up two hits in each game to end the day with exactly 100 for her Felician career.

Junior right-hander Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) (8-6) started both games in the pitching circle for Felician and earned the victory in each.

After Golden Falcon sophomore Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif./John F. Kennedy) hit a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1, Felician broke the game open with a four-run second. Brynne Bauman (Hazlet, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) collected a run-scoring double with one out, Roldan drove two runs home with a single, and Montoya capped the rally with an RBI double.

Each team scored a run in the fifth inning, and Spiegelberg's two-run homer in the sixth completed the scoring. Owens tossed four scoreless innings, giving up four hits with three strikeouts, and sophomore Erin Powers (Aberdeen, N.J./Matawan Regional) was credited with her second save of the year after pitching the last three innings.

Montoya finished 3 for 4 for Felician, which outhit the Clippers, 13-7. Losing pitcher Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) (0-4) and Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) had two hits each for Concordia (1-9, 0-4).

Spiegelberg and Manzo each went 3 for 3 in the nightcap to lead Felician's 14-hit attack. Spiegelberg scored three times, and her two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth ended the game on the NCAA eight-run rule.

Golden Falcon sophomore center fielder Steph Donah (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) drove in four runs. She stroked a two-run double in the third inning, and followed with a two-run single during her team's four-run fourth. Roldan's 100th hit came on a single through the left side preceding Spiegelberg's fifth-inning blast.

Owens pitched three more shutout frames. Concordia senior Carly Mertens (Freeport, N.Y./Baldwin) reached Powers for a solo home run in the fourth.

Eight of Felician's hits on the day went for extra bases.
