Softball Fails To Score On Final Day Of Florida Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Felician University softball team was shut out in each of the final two games of its trip to PFX Athletics' THE Spring Games, both non-conference contests held on Thursday morning at Hancock Park. Felician (8-7) was defeated by St. Cloud State University, 12-0, before suffering a 2-0 setback to Lewis University.

During Thursday's first set of games, St. Cloud State hit three home runs and scored five times in the top of the first inning. The Huskies led, 7-0, after three, and posted five unearned runs in the seventh for the final margin.

SCSU pitcher Kate Kopeck (Lumsden, Saskatchewan) (6-0), meanwhile, faced two batters over the minimum in a one-hit shutout. Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) singled with two outs in the second inning, and Jaimie Parisi (Hackensack, N.J.) reached on a sixth inning Husky error, also with two away. Kopeck struck out five batters without a walk.

With a run home and one out, Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) hit a two-run homer. One out later, SCSU received back-to-back shots from Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) and Jaiden Lund (Big Lake, Minn.). Coletto and Lund each finished 3 for 4, while Husky leadoff hitter Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove, Minn.) was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.

After an early exit against the Huskies, Felician junior pitcher Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) (5-4) was given the start once again against Lewis later Thursday morning. This time, she scattered nine hits in a complete-game effort, yielding one earned run. However the Golden Falcons again could not push a run across the plate.

Felician, the designated visiting team, wasted Zeaenna Brackett's (Woodbury, N.J.) leadoff double in the top of the first. The Flyers (8-4) then took advantage of theirs. Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill.) doubled, was sacrificed to third base, and scored on a Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill.) single. A passed ball sandwiched between two Lewis singles in the fourth gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead.

Felician's best chance to cut into its deficit came in the fifth, when it put its first two runners on base. Brynne Bauman (Hazlet, N.J.) executed a successful sacrifice, but Lewis pitcher Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill.) picked up a strikeout and groundout to preserve her shutout.

Sanders (5-0) went the distance on a six-hitter, striking out eight Golden Falcon hitters without a walk. The Flyers' Emily Guske (Loves Park, Ill.) was 2 for 2 plus a sacrifice. Brackett picked up two doubles and Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) was also 2 for 3 for Felician.

Felician begins "northern" action by traveling to the University of New Haven for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
