Charles Nets First Goal But Women's Lacrosse Bows To Wilmington

Box Score

NEWARK, Del. – Felician University sophomore midfielder Cassidy Charles (Irvington, N.J.) scored her first career goal, but the Golden Falcons fell to host Wilmington (Del.) University, 19-4, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Freshman Andrea Hill (Monroe, N.Y.) tallied Felician's other three goals, and led all players in the game with six draw controls. Hill set the single-season Golden Falcon record for goals with 12. Teammate Liana Chirichiello (Waldwick, N.J.) scored 11 in 2016, Felician's inaugural season.

After Wilmington senior Gabby Spalt (Forest Hill, Md.) picked up the game's first two goals, Hill sliced the Felician deficit in half with a free-position conversion three minutes, 33 seconds, into the contest. But that was the only score the visitors could muster in the first period. With 5:43 left in the half, Wildcat graduate student Auryonah Nash (Lancaster, Pa.) forced running time by scoring to put the hosts ahead, 11-1. Wilmington took a 13-1 edge into halftime.

Felician (0-10, 0-7 CACC) nearly restored the game to conventional timing, with Chirichiello assisting Hill on the first two goals of the second period to make the score 13-3. But Wilmington took control by netting the game's next three markers. Charles scored with 8:42 remaining in the contest to complete the Golden Falcons' scoring.

Spalt led the Wildcats with five goals, including the 100th of her career, and added two assists. La'Dae Boykin (Edgewood, Md.) (two assists, five draw controls) and Megan Card (Magnolia, Del.) each scored four times for Wilmington (6-9, 4-4).

Wilmington piled up a 34-11 shot advantage. Felician freshman goalkeeper Megan Euler (Manchester, N.J.) made 10 saves and tied for game-high honors with four ground balls. Wildcat keeper Maddie Hurm (Elkton, Md.) earned the victory with four saves.

Felician hosts a make-up game against Philadelphia University on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Lyndhurst, N.J.
