Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Felician University softball team came up on the short end of two closely contested contests with host Dominican (N.Y.) College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the DC Softball Field. Dominican earned a 1-0 victory in Game 1 before coming out on top in the nightcap, 4-2.
Felician is one of seven CACC softball teams jockeying for four available playoff positions. With six league games remaining, the Golden Falcons (18-23, 9-11) are in a three-way tie for ninth place, but sit only one game out of a tie for fifth.
In Game 1, Felician fell victim to a no-hitter by Dominican sophomore right-handed pitcher Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.). The Chargers managed only three hits off of the Golden Falcon pitching combination of junior Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Powers (Aberdeen, N.J.), but one of them was a solo home run by Alyssa Seiss (Queens, N.Y.) off of Owens (11-13) with two outs in the bottom of the second inning.
Paride (8-4) was perfect through five frames. She issued a leadoff walk to Jaimie Parisi (Hackensack, N.J.) in the sixth, but Charger catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) picked Parisi off.
Felician's Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) walked to start top of the seventh, and moved up on a wild pitch. The next two Golden Falcon hitters were unable to advance her, but a failed pickoff attempt did. Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners before Paride induced an infield popup to complete her no-hitter and secure the victory.
Paride threw 103 pitches in her gem, 70 for strikes. She struck out four batters. Owens had six strikeouts and no walks in four innings of two-hit work.
A run-scoring groundout by Charger senior Victoria Brooks (Bear, Del.) broke a 2-2 Game 2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dominican added an insurance run on an Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) sixth-inning RBI single, and reliever Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) made the late offense stand up. Larsen (4-0) pitched the last 2 1/3 shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks while striking out three.
Felician recovered from an early 2-0 deficit, tying the score on RBI singles from Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) in the fourth and Spiegelberg in the fifth. The Golden Falcons, however, left eight runners on base in the game.
Felician freshman Bella Davis (Chula Vista, Calif.) went 3 for 3, and Donah and Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif.) collected two hits each. Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) was 2 for 3 for Dominican.
Felician celebrates Senior Day on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Nyack College. Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif.) and Dyonna Pagliocca (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) will appear at home for the last time.
