Softball Sets School Record For Conference Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Felician University softball team scored in its final six offensive innings to earn an 8-5 victory over host Concordia (N.Y.) College in Game 1 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Clipper Field. Concordia bounced back to win Game 2, 9-1, in six innings.

By winning the day's opening game, Felician (18-19, 15-7 CACC) set a school record for conference wins in a season.

Game 1 was a sloppily played affair during which the teams combined to commit 12 errors and allow nine unearned runs. Felician took the lead for good in the top of the third inning, during which a sacrifice fly by sophomore Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt. N.Y.) broke a 1-1 tie.

The Golden Falcons extended to a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) blasted an RBI triple to right-center field and came home on a C.J. Apacible (Long Beach, Calif.) single. Spiegelberg homered to start the fifth to match the Felician single-season record of 10, and Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) made it a 6-1 game with a sixth-inning RBI single.

Leading 8-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Felician committed two errors and allowed Concordia to score three times and bring the tying run to the plate with one out. Senior pitcher Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) recovered to induce a pair of groundouts to end the game.

Owens (14-8) scattered eight hits and gave up one earned run. Roldan finished 2 for 5 with 2 RBI for Felician. Concordia sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.) had a double among two hits and scored twice.

The Clippers (6-18, 4-14) jumped out early in Game 2, picking up four runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning. Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) highlighted the frame with a two-run single.

Felician got a run back in the third when Apacible's single brought home Isabella Bradian (Mount Royal, N.J.), but that was the only offense the Golden Falcons could muster off of Clipper sophomore right-hander MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.). Concordia put the game away with another four-spot in the fourth inning, and ended the contest on Tansley's bases-loaded single in the sixth.

Powell (1-3) gave up one run on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Tansley went 3 for 4 with four RBI, and the Clippers' Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) and Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) also had three hits apiece. Concordia out-hit the Golden Falcons, 15-6. Apacible was 2 for 3 for Felician.

Felician won 14 CACC games in both 2005 (14-6) and 2015 (14-12).

Felician is slated to host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Wednesday in Lyndhurst, N.J.
