Softball Begins CACC Slate, Takes Game From Griffins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – The Felician University softball team produced 18 base hits on its way to a 10-5 victory over host Chestnut Hill College in Game 1 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon on the CHC campus. The Griffins limited Felician to three hits, however, in rebounding to win Game 2, 8-0.

Felician (5-12, 1-1 CACC) was ending a nine-day competitive layoff. The games also marked the beginning of 2019 CACC play for both schools.

Senior center fielder Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) was 4 for 7 on the day for the Golden Falcons. CHC sophomore center fielder Devon Horner (Mount Laurel, N.J.) went 5 for 6 with five runs scored and three RBI.

A two-run home run by freshman third baseman Jackie Ribaudo (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave Felician a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning of Game 1. It was Ribaudo's first career round-tripper. Chestnut Hill, however, answered with a pair in the home half of the third, then received a sacrifice fly from Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) in the fourth to pull to within 5-4.

The Golden Falcon offense kept churning. Freshman Krystina Lorch (Hemet, Calif.) capped a two-run fifth-inning rally with an RBI single. Felician then took control with a three-run sixth, garnering five hits. Jaimie Parisi (South Hackensack, N.J.) drove in a run with an infield hit, and Bella Bradian (Mount Royal, N.J.) broke the game open with a one-out, two-run single.

Felician freshman pitcher Trinity Garcia (West Covina, Calif.) (4-3) worked through six innings. She allowed nine hits – all singles – four walks and two hit batsmen, but the Griffins left 10 runners on base. Garcia recorded four strikeouts. Donah finished 3 for 5 with a triple, and Parisi and Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) also collected three hits each. Lorch drove in three runs.

The Golden Falcons were shut down by Griffin senior right-hander Hunter Irvin (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (1-1) in Game 2. The visitors managed only three singles, all in different innings, and had no other baserunners.

Chestnut Hill, meanwhile, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, then pushed across three in the fourth four the 8-0 advantage. When Irvin retired the Golden Falcons in the top of the fifth, the game ended.

Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) came up with two doubles and three RBI for CHC (5-7, 1-1). Horner was 3 for 3, including a double and triple.

The Golden Falcon hits went to Donah, Isabel Davis (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Monica Laverty (Lyndhurst, N.J.).

Felician opens its home schedule with a CACC doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. against Bloomfield College at the Lyndhurst (N.J.) Recreation Complex.
