Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Despite a valiant effort from junior goalkeeper Megan Euler (Toms River, N.J./Manchester Township), Felician University was defeated, 18-0, by visiting Franklin Pierce University in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Franklin Pierce (4-2) rolled up an advantage of 42-5 in shots for the night. But Euler kept Felician competitive, recording totals of 15 saves, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Freshmen Jada Blaize (Jamaica, N.Y./Channel View) and Jordyn Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) each picked up five draw controls for the Golden Falcons (0-4), who led in that category, 11-10.
Freshman attack Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) topped the Ravens with five points on four goals and one assist. She also recorded eight ground balls. Sophomore attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) tallied four times and junior attack Sarah Heckman (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) added three goals for the visitors.
The game remained scoreless for the first eight minutes, with Euler making three saves during that period. Ernst broke through at the 21:56 mark of the first half, and FPU junior Bella Lima (Hudson, Mass.) followed with a goal 74 seconds later. The Ravens added two scores in a 23-second span to lead, 4-0, with 18:33 left in period one.
With just over 16 minutes gone by, FPU again found the cage twice in a short span, this time in 29 seconds. Lounsbury made it 7-0 with 10:31 left until the break. Shortly thereafter, Felician nearly ended the Ravens' shutout bid, but a shot by Blaize caromed hard off a goalpost and back into play. FPU led, 10-0, at halftime
The Golden Falcons' best opportunity in period two came with 11:56 remaining, when Raven relief goalie Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) saved a free-position shot by Jashima Brathwaite (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Hollywood Hills).
Franklin Pierce led, 21-8 in ground balls for the game and committed only 13 turnovers to Felician's 27. Lima matched Ernst's total of eight ground balls.
Felician is home again on Mar. 30 when it returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action by taking on the Jefferson Rams at 11 a.m. in Lyndhurst.
