Donah Hit Breaks Felician Softball Skid

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior center fielder Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) snapped a 2-2 tie with a fifth-inning two-run single to lift Felician University to an eventual 4-2 non-conference softball victory over Northern State University on Tuesday afternoon during the PFX Athletics Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Golden Falcons.

Later Tuesday, Felician dropped a 10-2, six-inning non-league decision to Saint Cloud State University. The Golden Falcons (4-9) completed Day 5 of their six-day, 10-game spring break trip to Central Florida.

Freshman right-hander Trinity Garcia (West Covina, Calif.) started in the pitching circle for Felician against Northern State, the designated home team. Garcia (3-3) held the Wolves off the scoreboard for the opening three frames, and Isabella Bradian (Mount Royal, N.J.) had brought Donah home with a second-inning single to give the Golden Falcons an early 1-0 edge.

NSU struck for two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Wolves picked up three hits, including two-out RBI singles by Madison Rutter (Lakeville, Minn.) and Cassidy Schaar (Lake Villa, Ill.). But Felician rallied to recapture the lead in the fifth. With runners on second and third bases and none out, sophomore Keelee Davis (Chula Vista, Calif.) pushed a game-tying single through the right side. The Wolves failed to retire a runner on a fielder's choice grounder, and Donah followed with a single to left-center, knocking in a pair.

Northern State combined to strand five baserunners, without scoring, in their last three offensive innings. The Wolves left nine on base in the game.

Garcia allowed seven hits, all singles, over seven innings. She struck out five batters and walked five. Donah finished 3 for 4. Rutter and Kaitlyn King (Rapid City, S.D.) had two hits each for the Wolves (4-8).

During Felician's second game on Tuesday, Saint Cloud State (8-1) scored three times in the top of the first inning, then took control with three more in the fourth for a 6-0 advantage. It took until the fifth for the Golden Falcons to solve Husky hurler Kate Kopeck (Lumsden, Saskatchewan). After two were out, Felician put together five consecutive singles, including run-producing hits by Krystina Lorch (Hemet, Calif.) and Davis, but stranded three.

The Huskies used a two-run double by Haley McFarlane (Swisher, Iowa) and Jasmine Estrada's (Litchfield, Minn.) two-run single to build a 10-2 lead in the sixth. The Golden Falcons were retired in order in the home half of the sixth, and the game ended.

Kopeck (4-0) struck out six batters and walked none over four innings. Morgan Emmans (Blaine, Minn.) homered and Maya Keating (Wheaton, Ill.) was 3 for 4 for the Huskies. Felician's Davis, Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and Bradian earned two hits apiece.

Felician completes its stay in the PFX Games on Wednesday with non-league morning-timeslots against Assumption College and LIU Post.
