Women's Lacrosse Entertains Post In Home Opener

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University women's lacrosse team played its long-awaited 2021 home opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The Golden Falcons came up on the short end of a 14-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference decision to Post University.

Redshirt freshman Janea Kelty (West Milford, N.J./St. Mary-Rutherford) led Felician (0-3, 0-3 CACC) with three draw controls and three ground balls. Kelty caused two turnovers and picked up her first goal of the season. Sophomore Morgan Cassiliano (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) and freshman Cara DiStefano (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) netted four goals apiece for Post.

After having four home games cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 shutdown, Felician saw three more dates in Lyndhurst be called off earlier this season. Tuesday's contest was the Golden Falcons' first at home since Mar. 10, 2020. And while the Eagles led, 3-0, after 10 minutes, Felician righted itself and held that score for the next 10 minutes of action.

The Eagles seized back momentum on DiStefano's player-down free-position conversion with 9:54 left in the first period. The visitors stretched the lead to 6-0 before Kelty dented the scoreboard at the 1:42 mark. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Bain (Hamilton, Ontario/Bishop Ryan) made eight first-half saves to keep Felician in contention.

The Golden Falcons generated opportunities in the second half but could not consistently find the cage, scoring only twice. After Tala Marzooq (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) tallied to pull the hosts within 9-3 at the 16:26 mark, Felician was held off the board the rest of the day. Felician went 0 for 7 from the free position spot on the day, while the Eagles were 5 for 6.

Marzooq had three caused turnovers and Raquel Vilas (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) also scored for Felician. Bain finished with 14 saves. Post (4-1, 4-1) received two goals, two assists, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers from freshman Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West). Goalie Christina Badaracco (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) earned the victory with five saves.

Felician was back in Lyndhurst on Thursday to take on Caldwell University in CACC action.
