Spiegelberg Reaches Another Milestone But Softball Loses Pair

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Felician University softball team lost both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader to host Post University, 15-1 and 13-8, on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Felician graduate first baseman Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored the 100th run of her collegiate career during Game 2.

Spiegelberg was 4 for 7 on the day with three extra-base hits.

The opener was halted after five innings due to the NCAA eight-run rule. Felician was the first team on the scoreboard, receiving an RBI groundout from Sam Melendez (Levittown, N.Y.) during the top of the first inning. But the Eagles moved ahead for good with five runs on five hits in the third, highlighted by a two-run triple from Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.).

Post (14-6, 14-6 CACC) put the game away by exploding for 10 runs in the fourth. Wallauer and Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) each picked up two hits in the frame.

Eagle junior right-hander Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) allowed four hits in a complete-game pitching effort. Wallauer and Jusino were each 3 for 4. Spiegelberg had a double for Felician.

Both offenses started quicky in the nightcap. The Golden Falcons (8-16, 7-7) struck for three runs in the first inning, only to see Post answer with a four-spot in the home half. Trailing, 7-3, Felician went ahead by scoring five times in the fifth, including a two-run Spiegelberg homer. But once again the Eagles answered, using five runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to take control.

Felician brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth but Post reliever Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) escaped the jam. Rivera (4-1) gave up just one earned run in three innings for the victory. Bailee Zaccaro (Levittown, Pa.) (four RBI) and Wallauer hit consecutive first-inning home runs and Courtney Brobst (Townsend, Del.) was 3 for 4 with two doubles for the Eagles.

Spiegelberg finished 3 for 4 with a double, home run, and three RBI. Her two runs scored leave her with 101 for her career, third in Felician history behind Ciera Clark (113) and Jeannette Roldan (102). Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) was 2 for 5 and scored twice for the Golden Falcons, and fellow freshman Alexis Velotta (Menifee, Calif.) went 2 for 4.

Felician plays a makeup CACC twinbill at Goldey-Beacom College on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
