Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Felician University was limited to one base hit during its 16-0, five-inning loss to Indiana (Pa.) University during THE Spring Games on Thursday morning at DiamondPlex. The game was the final one of Felician's season-opening spring break trip to central Florida. Scheduled to play 10 games, the Golden Falcons were limited to seven contests due weather cancellations.
Sophomore outfielder Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, N.J.) picked up the only hit for the Golden Falcons, a one-out single in the second inning, but was left stranded. Madeline Layman (Meridian, Idaho) was hit by a pitch from Indiana hurler Amanda Fischer (Saxonburg, Pa.) in the third but was erased on a double play. In the fourth inning, Aniesa Grabowski (Childs, Pa.) reached on an error and the Crimson Hawks failed to record an out on Mia Martinez's (Bronx, N.Y.) fielder's choice grounder, but Fischer (4-3) worked out of trouble.
The IUP offense, meanwhile, took control early. The Crimson Hawks, the designated home team, used six singles to plate four first inning runs, then put the game away with five more in the second. Senior catcher Jenna Rhue (Buffalo, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run in the third inning, and IUP added five unearned runs in the fourth.
Rhue went 3 for 3 with a triple, homer, three runs scored and four runs batted in. The Crimson Hawks (6-7) collected 18 hits off three Golden Falcon pitchers. Fischer struck out one and walked none in her one-hitter and also went 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBI.
The Golden Falcons' scheduled home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-opening doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to anticipated inclement weather. Felician (2-5) will host the Lightning on Monday at noon in Wood-Ridge, N.J.
