Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Felician University was defeated by host Molloy College in both games of the teams' non-conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Rockville Center Sports Complex. Molloy won by scores of 13-1 and 10-2, with both games being decided in five innings.
The Lions (14-17) outhit Felician on the day, 19-7. Molloy launched six home runs during the twinbill – three during each contest.
Molloy took control early in Game 1, scoring five runs after two were out in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Amanda King (Guilford, Conn.) capped the uprising with a grand slam home run. Felician matched the Lions' single run in the second with Johanna Rivera's (Cliffside Park, N.J.) squeeze bunt in the third, but the Lions put the game out of reach with six runs during the home half of the third. Consecutive longballs by Alex Burns (Baldwin, N.Y.), a three-run shot, and Natalie Moussa (Chino Hills, Calif.) highlighted the frame.
King (5-9), the winning pitcher, drove in five runs and combined with Moussa on a two-hitter. Six of the Lions' runs were unearned. Lauren Del Campo (Claremont, Calif.) doubled and scored for Felician and Madeline Layman (Meridian, Idaho) picked up the other Golden Falcon safety.
The Lions again got out to an early lead in Game 2. Alaina Spates (Tabernacle, N.J.) hit a two-run first-inning homer and the hosts scored on a first-and-third play in the second for a 3-0 edge. That score held until the top of the fifth inning, when Felician pulled within a run on a Del Campo home run and an RBI single by Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.).
Molloy, however, ended the game with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth. Spates finished with two home runs and five RBI and Steph Conrade (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was 2 for 2 with three stolen bases for the hosts. Rivera had a triple among five Golden Falcon hits.
Felician travels to Staten Island, N.Y., for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
