Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Felician University senior pitcher Martarina Crumb (Branchville, N.Y.) held Adelphi University, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region, to two runs on six hits, but the Golden Falcons came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision in the second game of their non-conference doubleheader with the host Panthers on Thursday afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. Adelphi won Game 1, 11-3, in five innings.
After Adelphi sophomore righty Lindsey Hibbs (Brampton, Ontario) struck out the first six Golden Falcon batters of Game 2, Felician (13-20) erased a 1-0 deficit by scratching across an unearned run in the third inning. Lauren Del Campo (Claremont, Calif.) led off with a single, and one out later, an errant throw put runners on first and second bases. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, and Del Campo scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Velotta (Menifee, Calif.).
Adelphi picked up the eventual winning run off Crumb (5-9) in the fifth in similar fashion. With one out and one on, a throwing error following an infield single left runners on second and third and Alexa Scaripante (Bay Shore, N.Y.) delivered a sacrifice fly. Hibbs retired Felician in order in the sixth and seventh.
Hibbs (15-6) twirled a 2-hitter, striking out 14 Golden Falcon batters without a walk. Madeline Layman (Meridian, Idaho) had the other Felician hit. Sophia Cicchetti (Stirling, N.J.) was 2 for 3 with an RBI triple for Adelphi (32-10).
Four Felician errors led to seven unearned runs for Adelphi during the afternoon's first contest. The Panthers jumped on top with four runs in the first inning, and led, 9-0, through four frames. Layman had an RBI single and Velotta a two-run hit in the top of the fifth, but Adelphi plated a pair in the home half to end the contest. The Panthers outhit Felician, 9-3, including four doubles.
Felician concluded its 2022 non-league schedule. The Golden Falcons host Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Wood-Ridge, N.J.
