Box Score 2 WOOD-RIDGE, N.J. – Felician University senior Trinity Garcia (West Covina, Calif./West Covina) pitched a three-hitter to lead the Golden Falcons to a 6-4 victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College in Game 1 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday evening at the Wood-Ridge Athletics Complex. Chestnut Hill bounced back to win the second game, 10-6.
The Game 2 loss left Felician (14-21, 9-11 CACC) in ninth place in the CACC, one game out of playoff position. The Golden Falcons have four league games remaining – two at Caldwell University on Tuesday and two at home against Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday.
In Saturday's opener, the Griffins (8-32, 2-16) reached Garcia (4-4) for two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. The rally was capped by a two-out, two-run single by senior Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas).
But Garcia did not allow another hit the rest of the way, retiring 10 consecutive batters in one stretch. She posted six straight scoreless innings, giving her offense a chance to mount a comeback. Felician tied the game in the fourth, using a pair of Griffin errors and a Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, N.J./Mount St. Dominic Academy) sacrifice fly, and moved ahead in the fifth, when Daisha Howard's (Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) brought home Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) who had singled and stolen second base.
Felician tacked on another run in the sixth. Lauren Del Campo (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) doubled with one out, moved up on a wild pitch, and scored after a tag attempt was dropped. Garcia worked around a leadoff walk in the seventh, finishing with five strikeouts and two walks. Alexis Velotta (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley) had a double among two hits and Sierra was also 2 for 3.
Six Felician errors during the nightcap led to five unearned runs for the Griffins. Three CHC runs on only two hits in the second inning allowed the visitors to take the lead for good, 5-3. The Griffins used two Felician errors to again plate three runs on two hits in the fifth.
Felician lost despite outhitting the Griffins, 14-9. Senior Krystina Lorch (Hemet, Calif./West Valley) had a double and a triple for the Golden Falcons, and Howard collected two doubles and three RBI. Reid was the winning pitcher for CHC and went 2 for 4 with a double, and teammate Ariana Carreno (Pompano Beach, Fla./Pembroke Pines) was 2 for 3 with three RBI.
