Box Score 2 WOOD-RIDGE, N.J. – Senior left-hander Martarina Crumb (Branchville, N.J.) scattered seven hits in a complete-game pitching effort and sophomore third baseman Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) had a triple and a home run among three hits as Felician University earned a 9-3 victory over Bloomfield College in Game 2 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Friday at the Wood-Ridge Athletics Complex. The Golden Falcons gained a split after Bloomfield had captured Game 1, 10-3.
Due to the heavy rains the previous two days, the games were moved to the artificial surface of the WRAC, Felician's usual home field. However, Bloomfield, the scheduled host for the twinbill, batted last in both games.
Felician (10-11, 6-6 CACC) took control early during the nightcap, needing only three hits to plate six runs during the top of the second inning. The Golden Falcons took advantage of two walks and two Bear errors and scored two runs on wild pitches. Howard and Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, N.J.) capped the rally with consecutive RBI singles.
The hosts reached Crumb (3-5) for two runs in the fourth, but the southpaw limited the damage with a double-play grounder followed by a strikeout. Crumb finished the day with four strikeouts and no walks. Chierchia had a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Howard a two-run homer in the seventh to complete the Felician scoring.
Howard went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBI and Chiercha was 3 for 3 and drove in two runs for Felician. Deja Robinson (Livingston, N.J.) and Sydney Huse (El Cajon, Calif.) collected two hits each for Bloomfield (8-19, 6-4).
The Bears broke open the opener with eight runs in the first two frames, with six driven in by freshman second baseman Jillian Holmes (Elkton, Md.). Holmes capped a five-run first for the Bears with a grand slam home run, then had a two-out, two-run single to finish off a three-run second.
A three-run fifth-inning home run by Felician sophomore Alexis Velotta (Menifee, Calif.) was the only blemish on the line of Bloomfield senior pitcher Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, Calif.). The righty allowed seven hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts and four walks. Holmes finished 3 for 4 with seven RBI, and Robinson and Raelyn D'Onofrio (Voorhees, N.J.) also had three hits each as part of the Bears' 13-hit attack.
Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, N.J.) and Lauren Del Campo (Claremont, Calif.) joined Velotta with a pair of safeties apiece for the Golden Falcons.
