Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, FL – Felician softball went into Day Two of the Spring Games in Florida to face Lake Erie College and Clarion University. In the day, the Golden Falcons clinched the win against the Storm, 4-3, but were toppled by the Golden Eagles, 8-4.
In game one Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) went 2-3 at the plate with one run while Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, NY) and Mia Martinez (Bronx, NY) went 1-3 with one run and an RBI each. Starting pitcher, Riley Williams (Corona, CA) recorded her third win of the season with seven innings pitched, four strikeouts, and three runs.
Lake Erie held a 1-0 lead until the top of the sixth inning when the Storm put 2 more runs on the board to hold the 3-0 advantage. The Golden Falcons scored all four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and close out with its first win down in Florida. Howard sparked the offense with a single and Steinmetz stays hot at the plate with an RBI double for the first run. With two outs, Martinez tripled to send home Steinmetz and to put herself as the tying run in scoring position. After a Lake Erie error, Martinez came home for the 4-3 lead and the win.
In game two, Felician was in a 5-0 deficit by the end of the third inning. Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) singled to start the inning and was sent around the basepaths for the first run of the afternoon, 5-1. The Golden Falcons loaded the bases with one out to bring home two runners to cut the deficit to two. However, a three-run bottom fifth inning for Clarion gave them the 8-3 advantage.
Alexis Velotta (Manifee, CA) would score the final run of the contest for the Golden Falcons, but it would not be enough to break the 8-4 lead. Chierchia went 2-3 with one run and Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, NJ) also went 2-3 but with an RBI.
The Golden Falcons are now 4-5 overall and go into Saturday with two more games against Saint Rose at 10:00am and Ferris State at 3:00pm.
