Golden Falcon Offense Shines Against UMary and Indiana (Pa.)

WINTER HAVEN, FL – Alexis Velotta (Menifee, CA) made seven plate appearances (4-7) in the Golden Falcons first game of the afternoon. Velotta and Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) secured four RBIs in the 18-14 victory over UMary.

Howard went 4-6 with four runs, Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) went 4-6 with three runs and two RBIs, and Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA), who pinch hit, went 2-2 with one run and an RBI. Starting pitcher Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, NV) pitched in 2.0 innings with five hits four runs and one strike out. Alexa De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) pitched 3.0 innings with three hits, three runs and four strikeouts and Riley Williams (Corona, CA) clinched her fifth win of the season with 4.0 innings pitched, ten hits, and two strikeouts.

The Marauders held a 4-0 lead over the Golden Falcons by the end of the third inning. The green-and-gold put up four runs of their own in the top of the fourth to spark their offensive surgae during the game one contest. On both ends, UMary and Felician would score in each inning leading up to the seventh where they found themselves tied to send the game into two-extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Williams was sent home by Steinmetz for the first run. Eventually, Velotta clinched a single to bring in another Felician run to end the inning with a 14-12 lead. The Marauders recorded two runs of their own to push the game to a ninth inning.

During that time, the Golden Falcons added four runs to the board, 18-14, after hits from Howard, Mia Martinez (Bronx, NY), Williams (sac fly), and Jaylyn Melendez (Commack, NY). With Williams still in the circle, the Golden Falcons gave up no runs, no hits and no errors in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

As a team, the Golden Falcons ties a Felician Record for most hits in a game with 21 and sits tied in fourth for most runs in a game with 18. Velotta also places herself in the record book with seven at bats in a game putting her in the top spot.

 

Game Two:

During game two Felician had two three-run innings to grasp the 8-7 win over Indiana (Pa.). Velotta and Howard both went 3-4 with Velotta leading off bringing in three run with three RBIs and Howard had two runs and one RBI.

Starting pitcher, Williams secured her sixth seasonal win with seven innings pitched, eight hits and four strikeouts.

Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Falcons found themselves trailing the Crimson Hawks by 7-5. Velotta crushed a two-run home run to put Felician within one of the leader. With two outs, Chierchia singled into left field for the RBI walk off run to secure the 8-7 win.

Softball is now 8-7 overall and will be heading into its final day in Florida on Thursday to face Shepherd and Purdue Northwestern starting at 9:00am.
