Box Score 2 STATEN ISLAND, NY – In a non-conference match-up with the College of Staten Island Dolphins, the Golden Falcons sweep its opposers 6-2 and 12-3 respectively to improve its overall record to 10-9.
Game One:
After the first inning, the score was tied at two but during the top of the fifth, the Golden Falcons were able to convert a fielding error into a run to take the 3-2 lead. Alexis Velotta (Manifee, CA) led off the seventh with a walk to eventually find herself in scoring position after another Dolphin fielding error. Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA) would secure a two run RBI single to increase its advantage to 5-2. Mia Martinez (Bronx, NY) would bring home the final run of game one with a sac fly to give the green-and-gold the 6-2 victory.
Riley Williams (Corona, CA) was in the circle for the Golden Falcons where she pitched 7.0 innings, struck out 10, and only allowed two runs and five hits. With the freshman's 10 strikeouts, she becomes the fourth Felician player to secure that statistic to place her in the Felician Record Book as the fourth pitcher to do so.
Steinmetz went 3-4 with five RBI's while Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, NJ) went 2-3 with three runs. Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) went 2-2 with two runs and two walks.
Game Two:
In the five inning game two, Felician posted a six run third inning to clinch the 12-3 win to secure the doubleheader sweep. Steinmetz recorded two more RBI's in the afternoon going 2-4 at the plate while Howard went 3-4 with two runs and three RBI's.
The Golden Falcons ignited its scoring during the second inning when they loaded the bases to have Velotta walk in an RBI for the first run. Between the third and fifth inning, the green-and-gold combined for 11-runs to hold the 12-2 advantage. The Dolphins would attempt to chip away at the Felician lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Golden Falcons held off a rally to take the game two victory. To add more to the day, Howard secured her 100th career hit.
The softball squad will be back in action on Tuesday, March 19, to face Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents Dominican (N.Y.) for a doubleheader starting at 2:30pm.
