Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, NY – Felician Softball (12-9/2-0 CACC) opened conference play with a doubleheader against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents Dominican (N.Y.) University Tuesday afternoon. In a combination of both contests, the Golden Falcons posted 26 runs to have the Chargers fall at the mercy of the green-and-gold.
GAME ONE (5-innings):
The Golden Falcons commenced game one with a 3-run first inning sparked by a Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA) and Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) double. The Chargers were able to hold off Felician in the second, but the squad had a four run answer in the third and fourth inning to take the 13-2 game one victory.
Mia Martinez (Bronx, NY) went 4-3 with one run and an RBI while current CACC Player of the Week, Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) went 2-4 with a homerun, three runs and three RBI's. Steinmetz went perfect at the plate (2-2) clinching two runs and two RBI's.
Riley Williams (Corona, CA) recorded her eighth win of the season with 5.0 innings pitched while only surrendering six hits, two runs, and two walks.
GAME TWO:
During the game two contest, the Golden Falcons secured 13-more runs to record a combined 26 total for the afternoon. Alexis Velotta (1 HR-4 RBI's)(Manifee, CA), Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, NJ), Darlene Valadez (Sylmar, CA), Jaylyn Melendez (Commack, NY), and Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, NJ) posted two runs apiece. Martinez slammed her first home run of the year to help the Golden Falcons secure a 9-run first inning.
Felician would only allow the hosts to score once as they added four runs to their total for the 13-1 game two win.
Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) was in the circle for 5.0 innings to face 21 batters. The pitcher only allowed six hits, one run, and recorded four strikeouts.
The softball squad is on a four-game win streak as they head into their home opener at Palisades Park against Adelphi Thursday for another doubleheader starting at 2:00pm.
