Box Score 2 PALISADES, NJ – Felician softball split Friday afternoon's doubleheader with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference leaders Wilmington (Del.) at Palisades Park. The Wildcats handed Riley Williams (Corona, CA) the loss after they secured the 5-1 win, however, the Golden Falcons answered back and shut out its opposers for the 4-0 game two win.
GAME ONE:
During game one, both squads would remain scoreless until the third inning when the Wildcats would post 3 runs for the 3-0 advantage. By the sixth inning, the visitors would add two more runs to the score while Felician was able to record one to chip away at the lead. Alexis Velotta (Menifee, CA) led off for the squad to place herself in scoring position after a wild pitch. The Wildcats eventually recorded two outs and Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA) singled into center field to send Velotta home for their only run of the day.
Velotta went 1-3 with the lone green-and-gold run, while Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY), Steinmetz, and Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) also went 1-3.
GAME TWO:
Steinmetz recorded two RBIs in the game two contest as the Golden Falcons secured the 4-0 shutout win for the split decision of the afternoon.
Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) was in the circle for Felician with 7.0 innings pitched, five hits, and one strikeout.
The green-and-gold would record runs in the third and fourth inning. Velotta and Howard were placed on the basepaths from singles to be sent home by Steinmetz for the 2-0 lead. To add onto the advantage, Chierchia doubled into right center field to allow Steinmetz to be the third run of the game.
By the fourth inning, Hannah Ramirez (Carson, CA) was hit by a pitch to start the inning off with a baserunner. The freshman moved over to third after a passed ball and a Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, NJ) ground out. Velotta secured the RBI on a sac fly into left field for the fourth.
Felician held off its opposers for the game two shutout win.
Softball is 13-10 overall and 3-1 in the CACC. They will be back in action at Palisades Park to face St. Thomas Aquinas for a non-conference match-up starting at 2:30pm
