Box Score 2 PALISADES PARK, NJ – Felician softball secures a non-conference doubleheader shut-out sweep against Mercy College at Palisades Park Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE (6-INNINGS):
Freshman pitcher, Riley Williams (Corona, CA) ties the record for most wins in a single season with her 15th victory in the circle for the green-and-gold. Williams pitched 6.0 innings to only surrender two hits and struck out five. The Golden Falcons secured the 8-0 win through six innings.
Alexis Velotta (Menifee, CA) and Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) placed themselves on the basepaths to become the first two runs for the Golden Falcons, 2-0, after the first. By the bottom of the fifth, the hosts held a 3-0 advantage to ultimately extend it to 7-0 after a four-run inning. Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA) posted a 3 RBI double to eventually touch home on a Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, NV) sac fly.
By the end of the sixth, the hosts clinched its eighth run to end the game with the 8-0 victory.
Steinmetz went 2-3 with three RBIs and Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) also went 2-3 but with two RBIs.
GAME TWO:
During a slow starter game two, the Golden Falcons would not post its first run until the bottom of the fifth inning. Velotta, Howard, and Steinmetz each recorded RBI at bats for the 4-0 advantage.
Howard would pace the offense going 2-4 with two RBIs while Steinmetz went 1-3 with one RBI. Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) clinched the shut-out win pitching 7.0 innings allowing six hits, one walk and securing one strike out.
After game two, the softball squad secured its 27th win this season to create a new team record for the most wins in a single season.
Felician is 27-16 overall and 13-7 in the CACC. They will be back in action on Tuesday to host Molloy for another non-conference doubleheader at Palisades Park starting at 11:00am.
