Softball Continues Record Breaking Season with Non-Conference Sweep

PALISADES PARK, NJ – Felician softball captured its 29th win of the 2023 season as the green-and-gold swept Southern Connecticut State University at Palisades Park Thursday afternoon.

GAME ONE:

Riley Williams (Corona, CA) additionally continues her stellar freshman year as she broke the Felician pitching record for most wins in a single season as well as clinching her 100th strikeout. The freshman pitched 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts and only surrendered two runs in the 6-2 game one win.

Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, CA) sparked the afternoon with an RBI single to send home the first run of the afternoon for Felician for the 1-0 lead. Both squads remained scoreless until the sixth inning where Southern Connecticut State posted 2 to hold a 2-1 advantage.

During the sixth inning, the Golden Falcons recorded five runs to edge the Owls when Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ), Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, NV), and Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, NJ) clinched RBI at bats to propel the Golden Falcons to a 6-2 victory.

Rivera went 2-3 with two RBIs, Brown and 1-3 with two RBIs, and Howard and Steinmetz went 1-2.

GAME TWO:

With a three run second inning, the Golden Falcons started game two with a 3-1 lead. The Owls posted a run in the next inning to chip away at the green-and-gold score, but the Golden Falcons recorded another run of their own to sit on top 4-2.

By the end of the contest, the Owls recorded a two run seventh inning to only trail by one. Felician secured the final out for the 5-4 game two win and the doubleheader sweep.

Mariah Castellanos (Las Vegas, NV) went 2-3 with two RBIs and Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, NJ) went 1-2 with two runs. Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) got the win from the circle with 7.0 innings pitched, with three strikeouts and four runs.

The Golden Falcons are 29-16 overall and will return to conference play this Saturday to host Jefferson University as they celebrate their senior day at Palisades Park starting at 2:00pm.
