Softball Wins One in Doubleheader with Bridgeport

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Felician softball had their six-game win streak snapped during the 12-6 game one loss in the doubleheader with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents, the University of Bridgeport Thursday afternoon. The green-and-gold ultimately split with the Purple Knights as they snagged the game two win, 6-5.

GAME ONE:

In the start of game one, the Purple Knights put the Golden Falcons in a six-run deficit after the second inning. By the top of the fifth, the Golden Falcons posted four runs ignited by a Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, NV) double to put herself in scoring position. Johanna Rivera (Cliffside Park, NJ) had two runners on the basepaths when she recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice.  A Hannah Ramirez (2) (Carson, CA) single and a Kathryn Steinmetz (1) (Chula Vista, CA) RBI at bats would send home three more of the four run inning and to trail the hosts 9-5.

Bridgeport piled on three after the green-and-gold rally to put an end to the Golden Falcons winning stripe.

Ramirez went 2-3 with two RBIs and Mia Martinez (Bronx, NY) went 2-4. Riley Williams (Corona, CA) pitched 3.1 innings for the game one loss and Brown came in to pitch 2.2 innings.

GAME TWO:

After the events of game one, the Golden Falcons came out swinging when Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, NJ) clinched a three-run homerun while Alexis Velotta (Menifee, CA), Daisha Howard (Westbury, NY) and Jaylene Sierra (Jersey City, NJ) recorded doubles.

Chierchia gave the Golden Falcons the 3-0 lead on her homerun to have the hosts come back to trail by one. During the top of the third, Sierra posted her 2 RBI double to edge the Purple Knights, 5-2, and by the fourth, Felician recorded its final run of the contest for the win after Howard's double.

Velotta went 2-5 with one run, Chierchia went 2-4 with two runs and three RBIs and in the circle was Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, CA) who pitched 7.0 innings with six strikeouts.

The softball squad is currently 21-12 overall and 9-3 in the CACC. They will be back in action on Saturday to take on Post University in Waterbury, CT for a doubleheader at noon.
