Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Three Felician College pitchers combined on a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Golden Falcons earned a 5-2 Game 2 victory over visiting Post University and a split of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician senior outfielder George Hajjar (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) went 4 for 7 on the day and scored a run in each game.
Felician senior right-hander D.J. Stinsman (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/EHT) (2-3) earned his second consecutive conference victory in the nightcap. Stinsman yielded two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight batters and walking two. He retired the final 11 batters he faced before giving way to Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional), who completed the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.
Sophomore righty Stephen Paladino (Brooklyn, NY/St. Peter's Boys) pitched the final two innings in hitless fashion for his first career save. After two were out in the ninth, the Eagles brought the tying run to the plate on a pair of walks, but Paladino recovered from a 3-and-0 count on the next hitter to record his fourth strikeout.
Felician (10-14, 3-1 CACC) recovered from an early 2-1 deficit, tying the score in the bottom of the fifth when Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) tripled with one out and scored on a Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL/Coral Gables) groundout. The Golden Falcons took advantage of a Post miscue to move ahead for good in the next inning. Kevin Whitehead's (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) sacrifice bunt attempt was thrown past first base, allowing Hajjar, who had singled, to score from first and Whitehead to move all the way to third base. Whitehead came home on a Gary Lavoie (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) sacrifice fly.
Hajjar went 3 for 4 and Zudonyi and Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) each had a triple among two hits. Alex Villar (Mesa, AZ/Gateway CC) went 2 for 2 with a triple and Joe Diz (Albuquerque, NM/Dodge CC) had a two-run single for Post. Eagle hurler Stephen Corbett (Prospect, CT/Southern Connecticut State) (2-3) struck out eight in seven innings of work.
Post (7-14, 2-4) erased an early 3-2 deficit in Game 1 with a five-run third inning, then held on to stop a four-game losing streak as the Eagles' Cutler Ruby (Diboll, TX/Cedar Valley CC) (2-1) outdueled the Golden Falcons' Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) (1-5) in a battle of senior right-handers.
The Eagles' Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) led off the third with a triple. Post then used three Felician errors, a single, and two hit batsman to plate three runs before Diz capped the rally with a two-run single. Felician closed the gap on Petosa's two-run single in the sixth and a sacrifice fly from Simpson in the eighth.
The Golden Falcons put their first two runners on base in the ninth, but reliever Kevin Collinge (Chandler, AZ/Gateway CC) struck out the next three hitters for his first save. Ruby gave up three earned runs on four hits and struck out eight over eight-plus innings, while Dudzinski settled down to retire 18 straight batters and pitch into the ninth as well. He gave up three earned runs on five hits and struck out a season-high 11 in 8 2/3. Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, NY/Westchester CC) drove in three runs for Post.
