Lyndhurst, N.J. - Felician splits its series with Post University after falling in game one, but bouncing back in the second game at Breslin Field on Sunday.
Game One
Despite strong efforts on the mound and at the plate, Felician came up just short, dropping a 4-2 decision in the first game. Post put up all four of its runs in a pivotal second inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a Felician error to take control early. Felician responded quickly with a run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice groundout by
Chris Corchado following a double from catcher Luis De LaCruz, but struggled to generate more offense. The Golden Falcons showed some spirit in the eighth inning when center fielder
Christian Bauman led off with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from DeLaCruz, who finished 2-for-3 with a double and both RBIs. Bauman also tallied two hits, including a double and a stolen base. Luke Waltz took the loss for Felician, allowing four runs on five hits over six innings of work. Reliever
Andrew Gendi kept Felician in the game with three shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking one out.
Game Two
Behind a strong start from
Johnny Gilligan and a clutch late home run from
Ernesto Polanco, Felician held off Post for a 3-1 victory in game two. Gilligan delivered five straight shutout innings, limiting the Eagles to just two hits while striking out three and issuing three walks. Gilligan kept Post off balance and handed the ball to the bullpen with a 2-0 lead. Felician got on the board in the bottom of the first when
Jaxson Wall doubled and later scored on and RBI single from
Chris Corchado. The Golden Falcons added a second run in the fifth after Matt Scivanic was hit by a pitch and eventually came around the corner to score on
Haiden Walters' RBI single. Walters finished 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and an RBI. Post broke through in the sixth, scoring their lone run on a wild pitch after a pair of singles, but Felician reliever
Gavin Enright entered with two on and one out and extinguished the rally. Enright would go on to earn his first save of the season, striking out two over 1.2 scoreless innings. Polanco gave the Golden Falcons insurance in the bottom of the sixth with a solo blast to left, extending the least to 3-1.
